What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support designed to help individuals live independently in their homes, whether in group accommodation, private rentals, with family, or in their own properties. It provides funding for a support worker to assist with tasks like laundry, personal care, cooking, and learning life skills, fostering independence.

SIL is intended for NDIS participants with higher support needs due to their disability, requiring significant assistance throughout the week. It falls under the Core Supports category of NDIS plans. SIL can be accessed whether an individual lives alone or in group accommodation with housemates, excluding expenses such as rent, groceries, or supports covered by other NDIS categories.

Beyondable Care offers NDIS Supported Independent Living in NSW, delivered by experienced disability care experts. Our SIL disability group homes are strategically located in thriving hubs near public transport, recreation spaces, entertainment, employment opportunities, and medical centers, fostering an inclusive household environment.

We also provide SIL services in individuals’ own homes based on their needs. Our disability workers offer support for everyday tasks, ensuring a high quality of life and goal attainment. Beyondable Care takes a collaborative, personal, and empowering approach to support, respecting individual choices and cultural diversity.

How is SIL Different from SDA?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) are often confused, but they serve different purposes in supporting NDIS participants.

SIL focuses on support services to live independently, including personal care, housework, transport, meal preparation, and skill development. It addresses higher support needs for daily living.

SDA, on the other hand, pertains to the physical home where a person with significant functional impairment or high support needs resides. It provides funding for specialized housing solutions, such as group homes or self-contained units.

If eligible for both SDA and SIL, the NDIS funds them separately, offering flexibility and choice in selecting providers for each support.
